Rickie Traeger: Trail Camera Setup Ideas

Good morning everyone!

It is Monday.  That dreaded day that everyone hates, LOL.   Think positive though!

I have been thinking of places to setup my trail camera.   I am trying to find some really cool wildlife to capture on the trail camera.  I have been thinking about area that have had reports of exotic wildlife such as bears, mountain lions, wolves, etc…   They are rare to see in person around here.  So, I have been researching places as to where there might be potential luck to see some good wildlife. But then comes in question, even after I find an area I need to find a public land area, or ask a land owner for permission.  I think right now my best luck would be up near the stateline along the area of Meridian rd. There are a lot of open area you can see a ways, so if something crosses a field you would be able to see it pretty good.  There is another area over by Cherry Valley that has some wolves that I have been thinking about setting a trail camera for those.  I want to get it setup and going for awhile, before winter hits. I have determined that my trail camera can last approx. 3 months of a full set of batteries.  So if I set it up now, I can retrieve it around November sometime.  Which is kind of prime for these exotic animals to be traveling through our area.

On the other hand I was thinking it might be a good useful tool to try to capture some paranormal activity with it. I have been thinking of some places on public land that might have some paranormal activity.  Yes, I know trail cameras are not made for paranormal activity. But you just never know unless you give it a try.  What is the worst thing that would happen?  I would set it up and let it sit 3 months, then not capture anything, LOL.  Heck, there are many times I have set it up and haven’t caught anything but some moving trees.  Ah yes, the dreaded moving tree captures, LOL.  Or the shadows…   So realistically it won’t hurt to put it up to try to capture paranormal activity.

So the question  now is, What do you think I should set it up for: Wildlife or paranormal activity?
Whatever has the most votes, I will do that. I will leave this decision in your hands and you tell me. Wildlife or paranormal?

Wish me luck!

Rickie Traeger: Microsoft Flight Simulator History

Rickie Traeger

I have owned at one time or another, all the Microsoft Flight Simulator games!  This video brought back sooo many memories!  I think it is amazing how long and how far they have come with the technology as it grows. Hard to believe I have owned and played each and every one, and I still am not a pilot in real life, lol. Even though I can probably start, takeoff, fly, land, taxi  probably better than some of the real world pilots, based on my Simulator hours, LOL.

I have literally played EVERY DAY since the day it came out, Microsoft Flight Simulator X. I may have missed a few days over the years.

But I play this game religiously on a daily basis.  The game came out in 2006 and it is August 2020 now.

You tell me how many hours I have played (and still play) daily and how many years I have invested, LOL.

I thought I was like the #1 fan of the game, considering literally how many years I have invested into the game, lol.

Come to find out there are fans that are even way more into the game than I am 🙂

1962 Volkswagon Bus Scale 1/32

Good morning everyone!

Hopefully everyone is still staying safe and healthy!

My daughter and I went on a hike out at the park the other day.

She found a 1962 Volkswagon Bus scale 1/32 near the creek.    Looked like it had been in the creek for years.  She brought it home and I cleaned it up some.  I took this photo of it.  Pretty good photo, for being a cell phone photo.

We hiked a few trails for a bit.  I had to take a photo of this landscape. It reminded me of the movie “IT” with Pennywise.

We went over by the dam area of the park.  While we were there we got to meet and watch some professional wakeboarders.  JB ONeill and some of his friends were in town doing a film and promo.  https://www.youtube.com/user/jboneill They were actually filming when we went down to meet them.  They were very friendly.  They explained they were in town doing a promo and filming.  I took a video of them wakeboarding down the dam.    It was pretty cool to watch them!  My daughter and I enjoyed watching them wakeboard, and was cool seeing them wakeboard down the dam. Did I also mention they were using a drone to film 🙂   I asked them how deep the water was there, they said they could touch the bottom.  I had always thought it was way deeper than that.

I was able to get my 2 meter ham radio back on the air yesterday. I am back on the air again! 🙂

I haven’t checked the SWR on it yet, so I am not going to be on it much until I get the SWR checked on my antenna.  But I am back on the air, thats is the main thing.  It will probably be awhile before I get back on HF though 🙁    But hey, at least I am back on 2m 🙂

Rickie Traeger: May 23rd 2020 Storm Chase

May 23rd 2020 Storm Chase

The NWS predicted some severe weather was possible for our area later in the day. I honestly did not think much of it.
Because the last time I looked at the models, it did not impress me much.
So I did not think much was going to happen in our area.  I guess I was wrong………..

Bill (KC9OJP)  started up a Winnebago County SKYWARN activation net.

(Listen to the audio below!)

I might write up a detailed article about this chase, so look forward to that later on sometime.

Below are several videos and photos.  Wish I could recover my content from my cell phone.
My cell phone got soaked and ended up being fried. So I lost all my photos and videos from the storm.
I was able to recover some, but not the good footage 🙁

Watch the videos in HD if possible

Rickie Traeger: New SD Card Working Great!

So I tried to recover my data from that SD card from my previous post.

I was hoping it had recorded some dash camera footage of some deer that were crossing the roadway.

Come to find out, I was able to recover the data that was on there. BUT…………

Literally about 10 seconds before seeing the deer, is when the sd card went corrupt.

So it did not even save that footage at all, so it ended up being nothing to recover.

But with all bad things, always comes good stuff.

I was able to buy bigger and better SD card for the camera now.  🙂

I put it to the test, and working great now!

I am using my SJ5000 camera as my dash camera now. 😉

Rickie Traeger: SD Card Error , grrrr

Good morning everyone!

I was using my gopro as a dash camera to see how well it does.  Well I was traveling down the road and 3 deer jumped out in front of my vehicle.

I had to slam on the brakes, to avoid hitting them. I was doing 5 under. I never speed these days.  Thankfully I was doing my usual 5 under the speed limit!

3 Deer jumped out in front of me! Thankfully, I was able to stop and let them cross the road.  I was thinking damn that was pretty close.

Then i got to thinking I am recording with my gopro and thought that would be some cool footage.

So I get back home and the damn sd card is corrupt, grrrrrrrrr! And the messed up part about it all, the gopro had just stopped recording its last file not even 15 seconds before the deer crossed!

So I literally missed the deer, and literally missed the deer on the gopro, because the sd card got corrupt.

Now it is time to go looking for a new card.  Man, that sucks!

Hopefully everyone has had a safe and wonderful weekend!

Not to much going on over my way.  I got my fishing license the other day. 🙂

Went fishing I think on Friday for a few.  Was hoping to go more this weekend, but it has been raining.
Supposed to rain for a few more days then warm up to almost mid to upper 80’s. I will believe when I see it, LOL.

I sure hope it does, be some good fishing 🙂

We went to the following location (photo above)  It was very beautiful there. Trees were blooming, sun was setting. Scenery was just gorgeous!

Saw some turkey, birds, a beaver dam, etc…

Rickie Traeger: Friday May 15th 2020 Blog

Rickie Traeger

Good morning everyone.   It is now officially Friday!   Friday Night Fun Net is tonight 🙂  146.610 or 147.195

I am kicking back and I am watching the original Ghostbusters movie.

It is good to finally see warmer temps!

I cleaned out my tarantula cage earlier today. She now has 3 dozen crickets. So she is going to be well fed. I like to keep her well fed so she is not aggressive.  She is very skittish, but usually when shes well fed she does not move much.  She has made a new web in the terrarium. Up in the front left of the cage.  It took her awhile before she built another web. But when she did, she put it up fast.  I been tossing around the idea of selling her. There are a few people that are interested in buying her. But I don’t know if I can part with her, lol  I should post an updated photo of her soon, so you  can see how much she has grown!

Hope everyone has a safe and wonderful weekend!

Rickie Traeger: Jim Penniston On Fade 2 Black, Busy Work Night

I am about to listen to Jim Penniston on Fade 2 Black here in a second.  I missed the live show, so I have to watch the show archive on Youtube. Which I am about to listen too 🙂    I always look forward to listening to Jim when he does his shows.

It has been a busy day in Rockford today and tonight.  Several shooting incidents and a few accident scenes.   So I been working all night long, and that is why I missed the F2B show.

I did have a pleasant surprise at the one scene. I was filming and waiting for the crime scene units to process stuff. I was waiting for some good scene photos and videos, and was filming some b-film in the mean time waiting to film the crime scene units.  I noticed a vehicle approach me, and it ended up being Chief O’Shea.   Him and I chatted for a lil bit.   It was good to talk to him. And nice of him to stop and say hi.   He has always treated RS well.  Yes, I am against the encryption, lol.  But O’Shea has treated RS pretty well. It was a pleasant surprise for him to stop and say hi.  Since he was cool, I figured I show mutual respect and leave the scene. So, I was not able to film the crime scene units doing their thing. but it was by choice. O’Shea was nice and I left the scene out of respect.  As you know I work things a 2 way street. I lost out on some good footage, but the same time it was good to see and chat with him.

Alright, I am popping off here. I am going to listen to the Jim Penniston on Fade 2 Black!

Rickie Traeger: A Lot of United Airline Aircraft At The Rockford Airport (KRFD) (RFD)

Rickie Traeger

Recently several United Airline aircraft have been flying into the Rockford Airport (KRFD)  and staying.

I was told they are here to be parked, since things are slow, since the Covid-19 pandemic.  And while they are here, they are being maintained at the AAR.

I went out by the airport earlier today, and saw EMBRAER EMB-550 Legacy 500 geting ready to take off on runway 1/19.  And the saw all the United Airline aircraft parked on the AAR ramp. And I also noticed they had runway 7/25 closed down. I did not see why. I just saw the X on the runway and several workers out on the field. If you get the chance, go out there and check it out. Probably a once in a lifetime thing.  🙂
