Rickie Traeger Blog: Worked Switzerland on HF, Winter Field Day, Enjoying Time Off For Few Days

I thought I would pop onto HF Friday morning for a few minutes. I called out CQ a few times. Then KN4GBZ responded back to me.  I about dropped ot the floor when he told me he was working remotely in Switzerland!!!   He was there for a vacation ski trip. I was able to hold a QSO with him for a few minutes then propagation bottomed out on us.

Yesterday was Winter Field Day. I was able to attend the Northern Illinois ARES and Skywarn WFD.  But I was not able to make it to the RARA WFD.  I was hoping to make it to both.   At the ARES one, I was able to socialize and see some pretty neat setups.  Being the location it was held at,  I also was able to see a group of deer in the field and a beautiful sunset!   I didn’t work any of the equipment. I mainly went to socialize and have fun.  Which I did 🙂   It was good to see everyone.  It is good to see the Northern Illinois ARES and SKYWARN team ready to go for any situation.

I haven’t did too much RS stuff the last few days. I been taking time away to spend family time.  Later on tonight I am going to focus back on RS.  I was able to enjoy some quality time away.  Now its time to get back in the groove 🙂

I want everyone to still keep Raeanne, Brandon and their family in your thoughts and prayers.  They are going through such a difficult time.  Please send some positive vibes their way.   May Justin R.I.P.

I have missed the last few nights of Coast to Coast AM.  Been some good topics on there too!  Thank god I am a C2C Insider and can listen to them when I want too 🙂   I think my plans later on today, will go and listen to those archives.

Rickie Traeger Blog: Happy Friday, VHF Contest This Weekend, Bullworker, Etc..

Good morning everyone!  I hope everyone has a safe and wonderful Friday!

I made some changes to the Rockford Scanner website. Be sure to check them out. I listened to the feedback and made the changes.

I am going to try working the VHF contest this weekend. I do not do it for competition, but just to do it. See how many I can work.

I have some very sad news 🙁    Due to unforeseen circumstances, I had to get rid of Draculaura. My Pink Toe Tarantula.   Words cant describe how bad I feel right now. But there is one positive thing, she is still in the family!  My brother did NOT want anything to do with her.  But thank god his fiance and her son did want her!  So I know she is in good hands.  My brother is scared extremely bad of her, LMFAO.  But it is good Raeanne and her son wanted her. It makes my daughter and I feel much better knowing that she is happy to take her and she will be in good hands with her.  🙂   And we can go see her anytime we want too.

Ancient Aliens is on all day today. So I will be watching this, as much as I can today.  I like the show.  Some things they do say, is a little out there. But you have to go in with an open mind.  They make some valid points on several things, I enjoy their history and mythology aspects of the show.

I am thinking about picking up a bullworker.  If you do not know what that is, it is an exercise machine. Portable one. I think that should do me good.  I been trying to find one online at a cheap price, but they are not so cheap, lol. But I been told they are awesome for working out. So my next goal is to pick one of these up sometime in the future.

Rickie Traeger Blog: Volunteers needed for RS

Good afternoon everybody,

I thought I would mess around with the Dragon software so I do apologize if there are  any grammar errors.  I have to get use to my vocabulary.  It has been a while since I’ve last used it.  So please bear with me.

There is not too much to update from the blog I posted last.  So I do apologize.

I am going to make a quick announcement, I plan on adding volunteers to Rockford Scanner. if you are interested in joining our team.  Let me know.

Please take a minute and fill the following out http://rockfordscanner.com/volunteer-for-rockford-scanner/

Rickie Traeger Blog: X-Files Is On Tonight!!! Finished Reading Murder & Mayhem in Rockford, IL. Also January 10th National Holidays.

Good morning everyone!

I want to start off by saying Good Morning and also warn everyone to be careful driving this morning. Roadways have become very slippery in some areas and several accidents are coming across the airwaves. So if you have to travel, please allow extra time and drive slow.  CLICK HERE

X-Files is on tonight!    I am super excited!!!   I will be glued to the TV later on tonight watching my X-Files 🙂  And will probably blog later on tonight about it.

Sorry I did not blog yesterday. I spent most my day reading a book. I finished reading the whole book in 1 day. Been awhile since I been able to do that. The book is called “Murder and Mayhem in Rockford, IL” by Kathi Kresol

She did a wonderful job in the book. I was impressed. I learned a lot about the history of the area. And some very interesting facts.  She did a good job on the history and stories.  I want to send a shout out to her for doing an awesome job in her book. I am going to be buying her other books probably this weekend.  I do highly recommend you buying her book

I was able to change my oil yesterday.  When I took it to Walmart to do an oil change last time, they over tightened the bolt and broke the washer. So I had to change the oil and replace the bolt and washer. Everything is back to normal now.  Thank god. I had to personally do it. Was not bringing it anywhere to get done. That way I knew if there is an issue this time, it would be my fault, lol.  I was going through oil like crazy for awhile there.  But I was able to do some well overdue preventive maintenance and shes all good to go now. So I can go and work some scenes again.

Today and tomm. is supposed to be nice temps. outside. Thursday night will be back to normal with teen low temps and back to reality of winter, lol.  So if you have any outdoor activities that need to be done, get them done today.  High of 45 today. Which is like a heat wave these days.  It will definitely melt to remaining snow, if the sun pops out.

January 10th

  • National Oysters Rockefeller Day
  • National Bittersweet Chocolate Day
  • National Cut Your Energy Costs Day
  • National Save The Eagles Day

Scheduling an appointment to get your heating system tuned up, would be one of the many ways to participate on January 10 for National Cut Your Energy Costs Day. Did you know that tuning up your heating system can save you up to three to ten percent?

National Cut Your Energy Costs Day encourages people to look for ways to reduce energy costs and save on their energy bills.

It is often in the little things that you do that can save you big money on your energy bill, such as:

Weatherproof your home
Replace old windows with new energy-efficient windows
Replace old furnace with new energy-efficient furnace
Properly maintain furnace
Use solar heat if possible
Turn down thermostats
Turning off lights when leaving a room
Use energy-efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs
Run dishwasher and washing machine only when fully loaded
Lower water heater temperature
Take shorter showers
Unplug unused appliances
Carpool whenever possible
The above list is just a few of the many ways to conserve energy. Use these tips, along with others you may already have in practice, many available online and you will be able to create energy and financial savings the entire year.

Do what you can to conserve energy.Use #CutYourEnergyCostsDay to post on social media

Save the Eagles Day is observed annually on the 10th of January. Some species of eagles are on the endangered list. However, due to the work of scientists and the public, the Bald Eagle was removed from this list in June 2007.

There are more than 70 species of eagles throughout the world.  The only exception is Hawaii, where no species of eagles reside. Poaching, pesticides and other dangers continue to threaten eagle populations.

Use #SaveTheEaglesDay to post on social media.

I enjoy posting these National holidays.  I try to as much as I can. I think it brings awareness to things and people can learn.   I was thinking about posting the National Holiday for the weeks also. But have yet to do so.  I think it be a good addition.

Depending on how I feel, I might be adding a new page to my website here. I don’t want to spoil it yet, but I hope to bring a new page to my website here 🙂  I been under the weather a bit, and busy doing other stuff, I have yet had the chance to work on my website much the last week or so.

I will close this out for now.  I hope everyone has a good and safe Wednesday!

Rickie Traeger Blog: X-Files Season 11 Coming On January 3rd 2018!

I am super excited!  As you know I am a HUGE fan of the X-Files!

Guess what?  It is coming back on January 3rd!

I been wanting to make a ton of posts on this, but didn’t wanna overdue it.  LOL.  But I am super excited!   When season 9 ended, I was bummed.  Especially the way it ended.

When season 10 was announced, I can’t tell you how excited I was then that it was coming back. But it was only for 6 episodes.  So it was kinda bittersweet. Awesome it was back, but not many episodes.

I can’t wait for January 3rd 2018. Season 11 is coming back!

I think it is awesome that it will bring the new generation into the series. My daughters have been into it, because I am. They love it too.

I literally have watched the first 9 seasons, countless times.  When I saw that, I literally mean it.  I watch the X-Files all the time.   Religiously.

I will be blogging more in the next few days, and especially on the 3rd!

2018 is going to be GREAT!

X-Files Season 11
X-Files Season 11

I want to send a special shout out to a very close friend of mine, Chad!  Happy Birthday BUD!  Can’t believe you are an old fart now 😛

Also want to send another shout out to Melissa! She sent a donation, that I am going to use to renew the Rockford Scanner domain.

Rickie Traeger Blog: Christmas, Remembering Dad, Brothers Engagement

Hi everyone!   I hope everyone had an awesome Christmas!

I know we did!  The main thing is spending quality time with those we love!

Daughters and I tracked Santa Clause on NORAD.  We love doing that every year now. It has become a tradition.  We put out oatmeal cookie and milk for Santa.  My daughter talked to Santa on the radio and he said for her to set out some Oatmeal cookies. (Tony N9ARB, played Santa on the radio, much appreciated)  and we sprinkled the glitter in the yard, that my daughter made at school. So Santa was able to find us easily!

We spent quality time with my family.  I want to send out a shout out to my brother and his new fiance, they just got engaged!  Congrats to Adam and Raeanne!

The cold, really cold weather has set in. It is time to hunker down and get alot of stuff done.  Some well needed maintenance on the websites, playing around a bit with my personal site and stuff and experimenting with designs. I am going to use my personal one to play with some designs and might implement them into the other sites.  Also will be adding more content. I can focus more attention now on the sites and content. Looking forward to that 🙂  Also I won’t say much, but there is going to be some new stuff and changes to Rockford Scanner 😉   I am not letting the cat out the bag on this yet 😛 lol

I really been missing my dad a bunch lately. I mean I miss him a lot as is, but a lot these last few days. I wish he was with us still.  I constantly question myself if there is a God, and why did he take my dad? And if there really is an afterlife? And a bunch of other things. People say time heals, but in reality it hasn’t.  People will spin this and say I am depressed, but I am not. I am happy with my life, but I miss my dad a lot!  I took my brother to the off track betting a few weeks back. It was in memory of my dad. Was nice to kick it there and be with my brother and do the stuff I used to do with my dad.  Was fun spending time with my brother and at the same time remembering my dad.

Rickie Traeger Blog: Waze, Minecraft, Wishing Everyone Safe Travels This Weekend

I know many people will be traveling this weekend for the holidays. I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas. If you are traveling, please be safe.  If you plan on traveling,  I recommend the free app on your cell phone that will assist you with traffic alerts. It is called WAZE.   I mentioned it before, and I will again.  It is free and very useful!

My daughter and I played Minecraft for many hours earlier today.  We got alot accomplished on there. We were able to build several houses, mine a ton, and got alot done.  I like how it is split screen, even though it is smaller to see, lol.

I am hoping Santa brings a Weather station here to the house.   I can only wish, but I do not see that happening, lol.   It is about to get COLD out!  Lows down to 0 degrees, been awhile since we been that low.  It is that time of year though 🙁   I was hoping we would have gotten more snow last night. We only got maybe a .10 of an inch here.

Speaking of weather, I am almost done with my Weather/SKYWARN page on here. I am hoping to have that done here in the next few days.  I have the core done, but want to add more content to it before I make it public.  So be on the lookout for that page to come soon!

December 22
National Date Nut Bread Day
Forefathers Day – December 22 (Unless on Sunday, Then Following Monday)

Rickie Traeger Blog: Wednesday Blog

  • National Sangria Day
  • Mudd Day

Mudd Day is observed annually on December 20th, the birthday of Dr. Samuel Mudd.

After assassinating Lincoln on April 14, 1865, Booth rode with co-conspirator David Herold to Mudd’s home in the early hours of the 15th for surgery on his fractured leg, before crossing into Virginia. Sometime that day, Mudd must have learned of the assassination but did not report Booth’s visit to the authorities for another 24 hours. This delay appeared to link him to the crime, as did his various changes of the story under interrogation, and on April 26, authorities arrested Mudd. A military commission found him guilty of aiding and conspiring in a murder, and he was sentenced to life imprisonment, escaping the death penalty by a single vote.

President Andrew Johnson pardoned Mudd, and he was released from prison in 1869. Despite repeated attempts by family members and others, Mudd’s conviction has never been overturned nor has his record been expunged.

Dr. Mudd’s name has been dragged through the mud since his sentencing giving the term “your name is mud” a whole new meaning. The phrase existed long before Samuel Mudd and the events of 1865 and meant exactly what it means today. Do you use the phrase? Use #MuddDay to post on social media.

Good morning everyone!  Hope everyone has a wonderful Wednesday!

Sorry I didn’t blog for yesterday. Family has been sick. So not alot has been accomplished the last few days.  But everyone is feeling better now, thank God!  I wasn’t sick, but everyone else has been.  I am pretty sure my turn will be very shortly, since I was around everyone who was.

I was looking at the weather, it appears we have a chance for some winter weather tomm. night.  It doesn’t appear to be much according to the forecast. But hey, it is some “snow”  I will go look at the forecast models online after writing this, and see what those look like.  Hopefully they look promising and we get a decent amount of snow 🙂

Rockford Scanner News:  I added the online scanner feed to the sidebar area of the website. So,  that way it is easier for everyone to listen to it. Many were asking about it, wanting it back. So I listened to the feedback. I waited to here was a lot of people asking, before I added it back. Wanted to make sure there was a demand for it. So now when you open up the website, it will load.  That is a popular feature in the past. When I redesigned things a bit, I took it off there. You can listen to it directly at CLICK HERE

Rickie Traeger Blog: President Trump Sending Us Back To The Moon, Trailer Park Boys, Tattoo, Vacation, Etc….

I just straight up binged watched The Trailer Park Boys, LOL.   Oh man I love that show.   I won’t say much because I don’t want to spoil it for others. But if you have not watched The Trailer Park Boys, yet. You are missing out!

We finally got snow that stuck around for awhile now.  I was going to try building a snowman, but the snow is not packing. Guess we will have to wait until another snowfall to do it.  The temps really dropped. Talk about cold, brrrr.  Yes, I can hear you know saying we live in the Midwest and we are supposed to be used to it.  You may be used to it, but I am not. I like my warm weather 🙂

Awhile back ago, I got a tattoo. Yes, I have many. But the one on my right arm is not finished. The guy who was supposed to finish it, never did.  So now I am going to go on the hunt to see if someone will finish it.  If you know of a good tattoo artist, let me know.   I like BEAR, but I have no idea where he is these days.  If you know someone who is a tattoo artist, that does sleeves, let me know.

I been looking online for places to go for a vacation.  I so need one.  It be nice to get outta dodge for awhile and kick back and relax and not work all the time.  I didn’t sleep for awhile cuz I was working alot.  I ended up getting 4 hours in last night, so I am kinda good to go for awhile today.

Places I want to go to a vacation at. You might laugh at a few, but I am serious when I say these 😛    Roswell, the #1 place for UFO’s,  not real UFO’s just the history.  I think that be a badazz place to visit. Because I am into the paranormal and it be cool to check out.   I am almost finished reading Witness To Roswell.  An awesome and informative book!   The other place I want to go to is a warm beach.  OMG what I would give right now to be on a warm beach!!!

I am watching a thing about Voyager.  Pretty interesting to see what it has done and saw. So advanced for its age.  Speaking of, I love the NASA website.  Many cool photos and videos on there.  I like watching the NASA TV and the launches.

OH GREAT NEWS,  President Trump told NASA to go back to the moon!  It will be a few years, but man o man that is going to be an awesome day when that happens again!  They said 2022 it will happen, so its a few years away.  But heck, I am sooooooo looking forward to that day!   I am super excited he is focused on the space program again!

I am not to political on here, but I am liking President Trump a lot!  I think he has done a lot of great things since he was taken office. I think he does it his way and that is making America great again.  Yes, there is stuff I do not agree on, but realistically he is doing a lot of great things for us Americans. Especially with all the BS he goes through daily.  Our economy has bounced back, stocks rose, public relations have risen, etc…  He does it his way and that is straight forward and not the “normal rules”  And that is what America needed.

Some Rockford Scanner news: I want to personally tell everyone who sent in their snow photos and videos, Thank You!  I am going through them all here shortly and will have them posted later on today.  Many great photos!  Keep up the great work!

Also, Sad to see people out there robbing others! As you know I hate liars and thieves!  I hope one day they try that crap on me.  Hard working people earning there stuff, probably living paycheck to paycheck are robbed by low life scums trying to get something for free.  Yesterday someone knocked on a door, then beat and tied them up and robbed them on Charles st, then later on a good Samaritan gave someone a ride that ended up being a setup  for a robbery.  I do now wish ill on anyone, but I sure hope I work the story of good guy wins!

Todays National Holidays:

December 12

  • National Ambrosia Day
  • National Ding-a-Ling Day
  • Gingerbread House Day
  • Poinsettia Day
  • Chanukah Begins – Changes Annually

I will end this by posting this historic photo of President Trump signing the thing for NASA to send us back to the moon 🙂

Representatives of Congress and the National Space Council joined President Donald J. Trump, Apollo astronaut Jack Schmitt and current NASA astronaut Peggy Whitson Monday, Dec. 11, 2017, for the president’s signing of Space Policy Directive 1, a change in national space policy that provides for a U.S.-led, integrated program with private sector partners for a human return to the Moon, followed by missions to Mars and beyond. Rickie Traeger Blog: Just A Quick 2 AM Blog. Rundown On My Day

So I figured I would blog a bit. I was trying to get some sleep tonight, but that is not happening. It is 2 am, and I am sitting here listening to Coast to Coast AM. One of my favorite radio shows I listen too almost religiously.

My brother and good friend were both in the ER earlier tonight.  I won’t go into details for privacy reasons. But I hope and pray they have a speedy recovery.  They were not related, different reasons.  If you pray, please pray for their recoveries.

Last night I went to Walmart.  I spun my vehicle once while turning a corner.  I was going slow as heck, so to put a long story short. It was slippery as heck out. There was ice under the snow!  I made a post about how slippery it was, and some people were saying go slow and you will be fine.  Um yeah, guess those people weren’t out driving in it!  Even going slow, it was slippery out.  Heck shortly after I posted that, there was an auto accident on Forest Hills,  and police shut down Forest Hills from Harlem to 173 because they said the road was a mess and also because of the accident. So to those people being keyboard warriors, the police were even saying how poor the roads were.

I was able to work some HF earlier today.  Band was poor though.   I was hoping to work this one specific special event station. I tried all day long and was not able to make the contact. Kinda bummed about that, but hey what can ya do.  I did work a few stations though. You can check out my logbook at CLICK HERE

2017/12/09 21:56 40 SSB CF3SZ 7.17800 Canada
2017/12/09 21:20 20 SSB KG4GAD 14.34000 USA FL

The KG4GAD was a nice ragchew with a guy down in Sanford, FL.  He was coming in strong. 5-9+, So I popped on and said hi. He was talking about how he could sit in his yard and see the peoples faces in the airplanes above him. That was how close he was to their airport. And also how warm it was down there. I was kinda jealous, lol.

The CF3SZ  I was hearing pretty strong as well. I heard him in the past but I wasn’t able to make that contact in the past. But earlier today I was able to finally make the contact. It was a quick exchange, typical HF stuff.  But he was a good 5-7 on my end.  It took me a few tries to contact him. He was working a special event of 90 years for his local club.  I thought to myself, 90 years in ham radio is a looong time. But cool to hear 🙂

Alright I am going to pop off here now.  Nite everyone
