Rickie Traeger Blog: Quick Blog For Today, The Grimm, Solar Storm, Etc…

It is 7 am as I write this, so I should say Good Morning to everyone.

A solar storm is headed our way. Hoping to see the Northern Lights this week. The downfall on the solar storm is poor HF conditions.  Also it is a good thing that we have our atmosphere. Because otherwise we would have some major issues. But thanks to mother nature, it is just poor HF and hopefully a beautiful light show.

Not to much to blog about today. I spent a great deal of time yesterday reorganizing my go bags. Making sure things are in order and added some things.  It is always best to be prepared, than to not be.

Going to be a heat wave tomm.  Going to be around 40 degrees. Been awhile since we last saw those high temps.  Might melt some this snow we recently had

Well I am going to pop off here. I wanted to pop on here and blog.  I been binge watching “The Grimm”  so I am going back to watching that.

Rickie Traeger Blog: Winter Field Day, ARES, SKYWARN, Net Control, Justins Funeral

Good morning everyone!

Life: Last night I cut my foot pretty deep.  It was an accident, but holy cow it hurts!  It is a deep cut. I cut it o the side of an object.  Go figure huh, lol.  I know it needed stitches, but I just put peroxide on it and then put a band aid on it and went to bed. I woke up this morning, and it hurts!

But that is the least of my worries right now.  I ask that you keep Raeanne and her family in your thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time. Today is the hardest day of her and her families life. Justin’s funeral is today.  My heart aches for her and her family.  Please, keep her and Brandon and Adam and the rest of the family in your thoughts and prayers!

I was driving down E State street last night and saw this amazing car!  It was a BMW I8.  Yes, someone was driving a BMW I8 here in town!  Amzing looking car!  But at the same time, I thought to myself I wouldn’t be driving that in this city because you prob get it stolen with all the crime lol.  I looked online and it is Starting MSRP $143,400.00  that is the bare minimum price for the car.  Click this link, to view it ~ https://www.bmwusa.com/vehicles/bmwi/bmw-i8.html

The photo below is an online photo of the BMW I8.

As you can see its an amazing car!  I have photos of it on my cell phone, but I have yet to transfer it to the pc yet.  So I used the online stock photo above, to show you how amazing the car is.  Whoever owns that car, has a ton of money!

Weather: I looked outside this morning hoping to see grass. There is still snow on the ground. Guess what?  They are calling for 50 degrees this weekend!  Yeah, that is not a typo!  50 degrees! Snow will be gone, warmer temps. It is going to be great!

Ham Radio: I am going to be getting back into weather satellite stuff.  Also I plan on getting a soldering practice kit. I been pricing them online. I admit, my soldering needs a lot of practice, lol.  Hence why I am going to get a soldering practice kit. This weekend is Winter Field Day!   I am supposed to be net control for the ARES net tonight. But with Justin’s funeral, I do not know if I will be able too. Hopefully I will be able too, but we have a great ARES team and they got me covered if I am not able to be net control.  Also Skywarn net is at 8 pm tonight on 147.195 repeater.

Rickie Traeger Blog: Good Morning Everyone! Blog Updates On Draculaura, Quadcopter, Weather, SKYWARN & ARES, Etc…

Good morning everyone!

Shout out to the salt trucks crew, they did an awesome job yesterday as the weather came through.  They laid the salt down thick and was hardly an accidents that I am aware of. Many kudos!

Yesterday was warm and I was hoping to get a flight in. But the ceiling was low and it was wet out. So I did not get a flight in, as I was hoping for.

I bought a cheap VR setup. It was $9 at Walmart.  I was able to VR for the first time yesterday. Definitely an experience. I know everyone has probably experience Virtual Reality, besides me lol. But I was able to do it yesterday. I downloaded an app called Haunted House. I was hoping that it would scare me. But it did nit, but it was still a cool experience to do VR and walk around. It takes 15 hours, to recharge this thing, ouch!  But heck, for $9 you can’t beat it.

We had a good turn out for the Northern Illinois ARES and also SKYWARN nets last night. Had some new voices in there.  Definitely good to hear!  If you want to join in (Have to have your ham radio license) or if you want to listen in. It is Thursday nights on 147.195 repeater.  ARES is at 7 pm. SKYWARN is at 8 pm.  Be sure to catch them both!

Draculaura I think is getting ready to molt.  If you do not already know, Draculaura is my pet tarantula.  She has not been to active recently.  And been doing a couple of other key things, that gives me hints she is about to molt.  She has yet to do so, since I bought her.  So I kinda been waiting.  I keep her well fed, so it is just a matter of time. I will post updates on her as they become available.

Rickie Traeger’s Saturday Blog: Youtube, Phil Schneider, Ham Radio, Etc…

I want to wish everyone a safe and fun weekend!  It is still cold outside, but it is suppose to “warm up”  Sunday, so that will make things a little easier for us.

I want to send a shout out to the St Anthony ER staff and CT scan.
Keep up the great work!

I been spending more and more time on Youtube.  Pretty much anything you can think of, is on there these days.   I been watching the conferences and interviews with the UFO topic, and Phil Schneider, etc…    Note: Click on Phil Schneider name, to watch the last interview he ever made.  Pretty interesting stuff.   I also been watching videos on how to make ham radio equipment, How-to videos, DIY videos, weather videos, etc…   I love how Youtube is a wealth of knowledge these days.  I guess I should toss another disclaimer in here, lol.  Not everything you see or read is true, so use common sense and your own judgement for your opinions on the content on Youtube.

Speaking of weather.  Northern Illinois SKYWARN net starts up this Thursday the 11th at 8PM on the 147.195 repeater. So tune in and listen!  If you are a ham radio operator, then check in.   ARES net is at 7pm.

I was listening to the Friday Night Fun Net with Jimmy last night.  And listening to other ham radio operators goals for 2018.   And Gary response was reading the manuals to his radios.  I like that goal.  I need to do that on my end as well. I have a radio, that I need to learn the in and outs of.  So I think that is one of my goals for 2018, learn the in and out of my ham radio.

I am going to pop off here for now. I want to wish everyone a Happy and Safe Weekend!

Rickie Traeger Blog: Santa Clause Net, Kids Can Talk To Santa Clause On Ham Radio

I wanted to share this awesome experience!

They have a Santa Net on 3.916  (Ham Radio)  at 7:30 pm CDT

Every Night until December 24th, so if you miss it tonight you have a chance every night until December 24th to try 🙂

My daughter was able to talk to Santa, and she was super excited!

I think everyone should be able to experience this great event.

The Santa Nets are presented annually by The 3916 Nets. The Weather Bunch, The Rag Chew Crew, The Tailgaters, The Freewheelers and The 3916 Late Late Show are all amateur radio nets that meet on 3.916 MHz.

For more information on The 3916 Nets, go to http://www.3916nets.com

The Facebook page for The Santa Nets can be found at https://www.facebook.com/3916santanet/

Pete Thomson (KE5GGY), of The 3916 Nets, commented on The 3916 Santa Net. He said, “Christmastime is our favorite time of the year on 3.916 MHz. We really enjoy being able to help young people experience both the magic of Christmas and the magic of amateur radio.”

Youngsters can talk to “Santa at The North Pole” via strategically placed relay stations who are responsible for relaying in the voice of Santa. Thomson said that The Santa Net is a team effort that involves the efforts of a number of 3916 Net members. He said, “For over a decade, The Santa Net has connected kids from coast to coast with Santa Claus. With this amount of territory to cover, The Santa Net requires the efforts of a number or relay stations. Our relay stations do a super job and really enjoy bringing the spirit of Christmas to the amateur radio airwaves.”

For more information on The Santa Net, email KE5GGY at Gmail dot com.

Note:  Please remember to adhere to all FCC Rules & Regulations pertaining to 3rd Party Traffic. Thanks!
