Rickie Traeger Blog: New Years Eve, What Was Good & Bad In 2017

Today is Sunday December 31st 2017. The last day of 2017! It is kind of bittersweet. Leaving 2017 and entering 2018.

2017 flew by!  I mean i can’t complain because if you think about it,  it won’t be long before it is Spring 2018 🙂    But on a serious note, winters always drag by and Summers always fly by. Never fails.

I was asked what was my favorite and worst memories of 2017.

My worst one is definitely losing Jeff.  N9IMI.   Him and I talked on the radio every night for many hours each night for a long time.   Him and I became close friends through the ham radio. Losing him took a toll on me. I distanced myself from ham radio for awhile as well.  So by far, the worst of 2017 was losing my good friend Jeff (N9IMI) May he Rest In Peace

The positive thing for 2017 would be just being able to wake up each day and spending time with my family and those I love and trust.  Nothing can ever top that.   If I had to choose a specific event, I think it would be that the New York Times revealed a big thing on UFO’s!  The government was doing a secret project to research UFO technology and released a military video of a UFO, from the USS Nimitz . CLICK HERE  That might even be the news of the decade!

2018 is just literally hours away!  I can not wait for the 3rd. The X-Files is coming back!  3 more days!  I am beyond excited!!!  I was asked about my New Year resolution. I have not put much thought into it.  I think if I had to choose one, it will be doing more photography in 2018.  I use my body camera a lot, and want to use that for time lapse and other photography projects.  I been getting back into the monochrome stuff again (black and white photos) so I might do that.  I am thinking about starting a 365 or 52 week photo project. What better time to start one, than January 1st 🙂

I know many people will be going out to party tonight, so please be safe. Use your head and think responsibly.  As you know, when it hits midnight there are numerous gunshots that go off. What goes up, comes back down.  So please please be safe out there tonight!  Do not drink and drive!

HAPPY New Year 2018!!!

Rickie Traeger Blog: Christmas, Remembering Dad, Brothers Engagement

Hi everyone!   I hope everyone had an awesome Christmas!

I know we did!  The main thing is spending quality time with those we love!

Daughters and I tracked Santa Clause on NORAD.  We love doing that every year now. It has become a tradition.  We put out oatmeal cookie and milk for Santa.  My daughter talked to Santa on the radio and he said for her to set out some Oatmeal cookies. (Tony N9ARB, played Santa on the radio, much appreciated)  and we sprinkled the glitter in the yard, that my daughter made at school. So Santa was able to find us easily!

We spent quality time with my family.  I want to send out a shout out to my brother and his new fiance, they just got engaged!  Congrats to Adam and Raeanne!

The cold, really cold weather has set in. It is time to hunker down and get alot of stuff done.  Some well needed maintenance on the websites, playing around a bit with my personal site and stuff and experimenting with designs. I am going to use my personal one to play with some designs and might implement them into the other sites.  Also will be adding more content. I can focus more attention now on the sites and content. Looking forward to that 🙂  Also I won’t say much, but there is going to be some new stuff and changes to Rockford Scanner 😉   I am not letting the cat out the bag on this yet 😛 lol

I really been missing my dad a bunch lately. I mean I miss him a lot as is, but a lot these last few days. I wish he was with us still.  I constantly question myself if there is a God, and why did he take my dad? And if there really is an afterlife? And a bunch of other things. People say time heals, but in reality it hasn’t.  People will spin this and say I am depressed, but I am not. I am happy with my life, but I miss my dad a lot!  I took my brother to the off track betting a few weeks back. It was in memory of my dad. Was nice to kick it there and be with my brother and do the stuff I used to do with my dad.  Was fun spending time with my brother and at the same time remembering my dad.

Rickie Traeger Blog: Interesting Interview on Coast To Coast AM tonight

I am sitting here listening to Coast to Coast AM, and it is by far one of the better episodes I have heard in awhile.  The guest David Wilcock has been saying some interesting stuff. If what he is saying is legit,  It is mind blowing!

I don’t want to spoil it for others. But he said he interviewed a man who said he has autopsied over 3,000 extraterrestrials.   I have an open mind on many things.  But I am really up in the air on that topic.  I guess it is plausible, because our universe is enormous.  He came out with the mans name who only came public, because of safety reasons.  It be interesting to see what comes about on this topic.

The guest David Wilcock, is just the messenger. From the people he has interviewed. So I want to make sure people have that clear. He is the middle man, relaying what was told to him. And he is telling everyone on Coast to Coast AM.

If you want to listen to it, which I recommend. It is the December 23rd 2017 episode on Coat to Coast AM.  ~ CLICK HERE

Rickie Traeger Blog: Waze, Minecraft, Wishing Everyone Safe Travels This Weekend

I know many people will be traveling this weekend for the holidays. I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas. If you are traveling, please be safe.  If you plan on traveling,  I recommend the free app on your cell phone that will assist you with traffic alerts. It is called WAZE.   I mentioned it before, and I will again.  It is free and very useful!

My daughter and I played Minecraft for many hours earlier today.  We got alot accomplished on there. We were able to build several houses, mine a ton, and got alot done.  I like how it is split screen, even though it is smaller to see, lol.

I am hoping Santa brings a Weather station here to the house.   I can only wish, but I do not see that happening, lol.   It is about to get COLD out!  Lows down to 0 degrees, been awhile since we been that low.  It is that time of year though 🙁   I was hoping we would have gotten more snow last night. We only got maybe a .10 of an inch here.

Speaking of weather, I am almost done with my Weather/SKYWARN page on here. I am hoping to have that done here in the next few days.  I have the core done, but want to add more content to it before I make it public.  So be on the lookout for that page to come soon!

Rickie Traeger Blog: Shout Outs, Winter Mix Thursday Evening, Misc Blog. . .

I thought I would make a quick blog since I was sitting here.  Just wanted to give everyone who reads my blog a shout out!  Send me an email, I will personally give you a shout out if you like 😉

I was watching Josh Gates earlier tonight. That man has an awesome job!  He has seen and did a lot with his show. I am liking that show more and more these days.   I do like how they don’t lie and say they found something, when they didn’t.   I think that alone has made me gain a lot of respect for the show.

As of right now, the conditions are uncertain. It is 2:30 am. But the weatherman is forecasting some winter weather precipitation mix around the evening commute.  I been watching the models, and each time I look at them the chances are slimmer and slimmer, and what we do get will start approx. 6 pm.  Either way, I wanted to give everyone a heads up on your evening commute. It might be a little slippery.  If so, drive slow and allow extra time. Be sure to keep your distance from the vehicle in front of you. You know the common sense stuff, that people seem to forget about these days.

Be sure to watch the weather and have a fully charged cell phone with you, if you plan on traveling Thursday night.  Be safe everyone!

Enjoy your Thursday!

A period of mixed precipitation is expected from Thursday
afternoon into Thursday night, mainly north of I-88. Amounts are
not expected to be more than a few hundredths but some areas could
see patchy light accumulations of ice. Less than an inch of snow
is also possible Thursday afternoon into Thursday night, mainly
north of I-90. There is another chance of snow on Sunday, along
with the arrival of much colder air for next week. Highs in the
teens are expected Monday and Tuesday, with subzero wind chills.

Rickie Traeger Blog: Walking Dead Mid-Season Finale

This is going to be a quick blog.   Tonight is the mid-season finale of the Walking Dead.  I have a feeling that it will be another cliffhanger ending.

I think Gabriel might pass away.  His condition in recent episodes was pretty bad. So I think he will be a character they will probably kill off. I hate for em to do so, cuz I like him.  But they have killed off characters in the past who are favorites.  Another thing I like about the show, unpredictable.

I guess in a few more hours I will probably be blogging about the episode, and prob in shock and awe and probably mad cuz a cliffhanger ending, LOL.

Rickie Traeger Blog: Just A Quick 2 AM Blog. Rundown On My Day

So I figured I would blog a bit. I was trying to get some sleep tonight, but that is not happening. It is 2 am, and I am sitting here listening to Coast to Coast AM. One of my favorite radio shows I listen too almost religiously.

My brother and good friend were both in the ER earlier tonight.  I won’t go into details for privacy reasons. But I hope and pray they have a speedy recovery.  They were not related, different reasons.  If you pray, please pray for their recoveries.

Last night I went to Walmart.  I spun my vehicle once while turning a corner.  I was going slow as heck, so to put a long story short. It was slippery as heck out. There was ice under the snow!  I made a post about how slippery it was, and some people were saying go slow and you will be fine.  Um yeah, guess those people weren’t out driving in it!  Even going slow, it was slippery out.  Heck shortly after I posted that, there was an auto accident on Forest Hills,  and police shut down Forest Hills from Harlem to 173 because they said the road was a mess and also because of the accident. So to those people being keyboard warriors, the police were even saying how poor the roads were.

I was able to work some HF earlier today.  Band was poor though.   I was hoping to work this one specific special event station. I tried all day long and was not able to make the contact. Kinda bummed about that, but hey what can ya do.  I did work a few stations though. You can check out my logbook at CLICK HERE

2017/12/09 21:56 40 SSB CF3SZ 7.17800 Canada
2017/12/09 21:20 20 SSB KG4GAD 14.34000 USA FL

The KG4GAD was a nice ragchew with a guy down in Sanford, FL.  He was coming in strong. 5-9+, So I popped on and said hi. He was talking about how he could sit in his yard and see the peoples faces in the airplanes above him. That was how close he was to their airport. And also how warm it was down there. I was kinda jealous, lol.

The CF3SZ  I was hearing pretty strong as well. I heard him in the past but I wasn’t able to make that contact in the past. But earlier today I was able to finally make the contact. It was a quick exchange, typical HF stuff.  But he was a good 5-7 on my end.  It took me a few tries to contact him. He was working a special event of 90 years for his local club.  I thought to myself, 90 years in ham radio is a looong time. But cool to hear 🙂

Alright I am going to pop off here now.  Nite everyone

Rickie Traeger Blog: Snow In The Forecast, Funny Photo, December 8th National Days

I hope everyone is having a wonderful day.   The weatherman is predicting some snow tonight.  I am excited!  I hate cold weather, but love the snow!

With that being said, usually the snow brings a ton of accidents.  I can sit here and tell people to slow down and drive safe and allow extra time.  But we all know, that even when being told that, people will still drive like maniacs and will crash. It is just the way it goes.

The weatherman has predicted 3 inches at one time, all the way down to less than an inch.  So in reality we really do not know what to expect for the amount.  The weather men and women do a good job at what they do. But Mother Nature is going to do what she wants.

I just hope and pray everyone uses caution if they plan on driving. And to allow extra time and drive slow.

A friend of mine posted the photo below on social media.  And it was too funny not to share.  But to be politically correct I should toss one of those disclaimers out there, lol. The photo is not mine. I am not responsible for anyone’s actions or behavior and their drinking problems. I am not liable for any injuries, mental, stress, and all that other stuff, lol. On a serious note,  its a funny photo. Do not try this at home, all though it does seem like a cool idea 😛

I do not drink, but if I did I would sooo do this.

Time for some treasure hunting!

Rickie Traeger Blog: Quick Blog About Rockford Scanner, Volunteers, Scene Videos, Etc..

December 7th 2017 Blog

Well I did not have the chance to take off for a day on Rockford Scanner like I was hoping too.  So, I am hoping that I can today.  I need a few days off actually. I don’t even remember the last time I literally took a day off. A few months back at least.  I really want a vacation, somewhere warm!

Will and I went to go work some scenes earlier tonight.  We worked a fire scene and 2 rollover accidents.  It was cold outside, but I made sure I was bundled up.  He was bundled up also.  Even though it’s cold out, we had fun.  It is fun, when ya enjoy doing what ya do.  That is documenting what’s going on and reporting it to the citizens so they are informed and safer.

Check out the videos below.

It is snowing outside.  Yes, Snow!  It is not much but it is sticking to the ground, grass, streets.  It is very pretty to see.  As I write this, it sounds like thunder outside. Wonder if we have thunder snow?  Doubt it, cuz the temps outside are in the middle teens.  I know I just heard what sounded like thunder a few seconds ago. But its way too cold for thunder snow. Weird.  Anyways, its very cold outside and it is snowing. So please dress warm and allow some extra time to scrape off your vehicles this morning and drive to work.  It is the dry snow, so it is easy to remove. But the roadways were getting a lil slippery.

My cousin told me to watch this show on Netflix called “Shot in the dark”  she said it is exactly what I do and I would like it.  So I popped it on and began watching it.  Pretty interesting stuff.  The only difference is, they sell their content to the media. And well, I am media. But everything they say and do, is dam near what I do overall.  Was pretty interesting to watch it.  It was like a mirror image really.  They are more intense though.  They take things to the extreme. I just kick back at a distance and use a zoom lens.  So that part I did see a difference between them and I.  They get up in the scenes, I respect the1st responders and keep back at a distance.  But the show is a good one for sure, be sure to check it out! Kudos to my cousin for turning me onto it.

Alright I am getting tired. I wanted to make a quick log real quick.

Before I go, I am looking for volunteers at Rockford Scanner.  If your interested http://rockfordscanner.com/volunteer-for-rockford-scanner/

Rickie Traeger Blog: Tonight’s Supermoon, Skywarn Training, Walking Dead Tonight, Rock Music!

Supermoon

December 3rd 2017 Blog

Today is Sunday December 3rd 2017 and guess what that means?!?  Yup, Supermoon!  Tonight is the supermoon.  I am excited.  Now if only the weather will hold off so we can all watch it! According to the weather man, it is supposed to be partly cloudy which is good!  Last night we missed the ISS sighting, but hey we can see the Supermoon tonight!  Well let’s keep our fingers crossed! LOL   I plan on taking photos of it.

Share your photos with me at RockfordScanner@Gmail.com

I will be posting your photos on Rockford Scanner!

Read about the supermoon at http://rockfordscanner.com/2017/12/rockford-scanner-tonight-is-the-supermoon-send-us-your-supermoon-photos/

Walking Dead is on tonight!  Super excited about that also.  Sad that there is only 2 episodes left before the mid-season finale.  But it looks like it is going to be a good episode.  As you know I watch that show religiously!  So I cannot wait to watch it tonight!

I am currently chilling to Music Choice ROCK music station.  It is nice to hear some new rock music.  I really am bummed that the WXRX plays the older rock. Don’t get me wrong, the older music is good and what I grew up on, but I want NEW rock music.  The WXRX 104.9 is definitely not like what it used to be, that is for sure. It sucks these days. It be much better if they went back to their roots and played NEW ROCK MUSIC!  I don’t get to listen to music much these days. But when I do it is my “getaway” and I want to listen to the new stuff and see what’s out there these days.

I retook a refresher course in storm chasing. Not like I needed it. But I always like to keep up to date on things.  Heck I been storm chasing and spotting for numerous years and the course was a breeze.  But the reason why I am bringing it up, is because many people out there want to become storm spotters.  And I wanted to share the info with you.

It is always best to become a spotter, before a chaser!
