Rickie Traeger: Sunday Blog, Kinda Bittersweet

So yesterday was kinda bittersweet.

My family down south was hit by a large tornado.  Thankfully they are all alive. My cousin broke her foot. But other than that everyone is OK.  They did have a lot of damage though.
I think the last I heard, they rated it an EF-4 tornado.  And 22 were injured, and no deaths.  That was a very large tornado that ripped through the heart of town. Please keep my family down and all the others that were effected by the tornado, in your thoughts and prayers.

With the sadness of what had happened to my family down south.  I was able to have my first thunderstorm of the season for me. I have been waiting awhile now, for a thunderstorm!  So when it hit, I was excited.  Really happy knowing it is storm season again.

A little after 9 pm an EF-1 tornado hit the Ogle County and it had lifted just before it hit Will and I as we did storm spotting.  It touched down just East of Oregon.  And headed right for us.  Ended up being a lot of power poles and power lines, and some structures damaged. Thankfully it was mostly farmland that it crossed. Below are some photos I took of the damage.

After the tornado hit, it was literally stars and the moon right after.

I was able to see an amazing meteor fly across the sky as well!

So it was a day full of emotions and Mother Nature.

Rickie Traeger: Good Monday Morning!

Good Monday morning!

So it is 6 am and here I am munching down on some delicious thin mints.  Probably not the best way to start a day. I take that back it probably is the best way to start a day!!!  🙂

Yesterday was pretty nice out.  A little windy though.   I ended up going for a hike.   Was good and bad, lol. I will start with the bad.  The trails were icy or muddy.  So, it made for a memorable hike, lol.  I slipped and slide for the most of the hike. Now with the good, lol. Got some exercise, OK some dam good exercise! Was pretty out there, not a lot of color for obvious reasons. Alot of the trees and plants are not bloomed yet this season. So everything was kinda blah.  But I got to see areas I haven’t saw in awhile, because you can see for a ways in the woods right now.

I will post some the photos in my next blog post here. Along with a detailed blog about the hike.  It be later today sometime.   I a lot of photos with my cell phone instead of my dslr.  I had my big lens on hoping to see some wildlife. But that didn’t happen so my dslr was to long to get the photos I wanted, the wider shots. So I used my cell phone. I have to transfer them to the PC here. Then I will post them. So be sure to keep a look out for the next post 🙂

I am off to play a game of IRacing.   I hope everyone has a wonderful day. Stay dry! It is supposed to rain all day I heard. So enjoy your day and stay dry 🙂

Rickie Traeger: March 4th Blog

Good morning or evening, however you look at it.  It is 12:38 am as I write this.

I was sick earlier today and just laid in bed. I haven’t  had much sleep.  I am feeling better now, still under the weather some.  I am watching some X-Files and kicking back.  I am able to finally eat some. I ate a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Probably not idealistic considering I am under the weather still some. But I figured it would coat my stomach some.

I was looking at the weather forecast.  It looks like it is going to be a nice weekend!  Speaking of weather.  The tornado that hit the Nashville areas the other night. My condolences goes to those family and friends who lost their loved ones.  It hit overnight and the last I heard there were 22 fatalities. I heard there were two tornadoes. An EF-4 and an EF-3 that hit that area.  I have saw a few videos of the tornado at night, it looked like a big stovepipe tornado. And at the time it still had yet to break daylight so the main damage area was not published yet. I saw a few trees down and a business wall blown down.  Then later on in the day I saw more videos and photos of the damage that was being released. And it is a sad situation. Please keep everyone effected in your thoughts and prayers.

Rickie Traeger: I wanted to share a memory that involves my dad and uncle Ray

I wanted to share a memory that involves my dad and uncle Ray, that I haven’t told many people.  I still remember this like it happened yesterday.  I was sitting here and I was just thinking about this, so I figured I would blog about it.

Years ago when I was growing up my dad and uncle Ray would take us kids out to the park to go fishing all the time.  My dad and uncle Ray loved to fish. So we would go a lot as we were growing up.

One day we were out at the park and a storm was rolling in. The weather alerts were going off saying to seek shelter and all that good stuff. Well we were out at the lake fishing and didn’t see the storm right away.  A short time later these dark black clouds come rolling in.  My dad and uncle Ray said we were going to stay there and fish until the storm was right on top of us.

That is exactly what happened. We fished until the storm was pretty much on top of us. Then we all packed into the vehicle to leave.  We left the park and were headed back home.

On the way back home it was lightning and thundering pretty heavy. Pretty intense storm with a lot of rain, lightning and thunder.  We get to the area of Harlem and Alpine.  All of a sudden out of nowhere…

A BOLT OF LIGHTNING STRUCK OUR VEHICLE!

Yes, a bolt of lightning hit our vehicle!  Scared the crap out of us all, LOL. Thankfully no one was touching any metal inside the vehicle.  The lightning struck the hood/windshield are of the vehicle and did some damage.

I remember this like it happened yesterday.  And it is one of those whacky moments that I will never forget with my dad and uncle Ray.  Miss you guys. Love You!  Hope you guys are having fun up in the heavens above.

Rickie Traeger: Project Blue Book, Hire A Photographer, Winter Weather

It is officially Tuesday now.   I am super excited!  Project Blue Book is coming back on tonight!  Heck yeah!

I have to replace the bathroom fan later on today. I am so not looking forward to doing that. But I think it is going bad, so I need to replace it.  I watched some Youtube videos on how to replace them. They make it look easy.  Let me say one thing, the more a video makes something look easy, the harder it really is to do, LOL.

If you know anyone who needs a photographer.  Contact me, Will and I have some openings now available.  We can do your photoshoot and events for you!

Our work speaks for itself. So you know you will be getting the best of the best photographers when you hire us 🙂

If you want to hire us to do your photos, shoot us an email at RockfordScanner@Gmail.com

I just looked at the weather forecast. I am kind of liking it.  It is not going to be super cold. But…….. There is several inches of snow possible.   I will definitely take the snow over really cold temps, anyday!   I actually enjoy the snow. I wish it could snow in the summer time, but that is impossible.   I am just happy to see the temps will be above 0 degrees!

Alright I am going to pop off here and play some Red Dead Redemption 2.

I hope everyone has a safe and wonderful Tuesday. Don’t forget Project Blue Book is on tonight!

Rickie Traeger: Well there was no snowpocolypse

Good morning everyone.

Well there was no snowpocolypse, WTF as usual the media hypes it up and then we get 2 inches at most.   If they call that a big winter storm, then they obviously never grew up in our area.  LOL.

Some were throwing predictions of 9 inches, and yet all I see is maybe 3 inches at tops.  And that is on the good end at most, lol.

I went out and just shoveled it. As of a lil bit ago, it was the light fluffy snow for the most part.

I have yet to see a city plow. But I have saw several private contractors out n bout, but no city plows.  They could be out n bout, but I personally have not saw one.

So I guess it is official, we are back into winter again, yippie skippie, lol.   The positive side, closer to becoming spring time 🙂

2 more months, or 8 weeks. However you want to look at it, lol.  Well rough estimates. I am sure someone will read this and tell me the exact times, lol.

Everyone stay safe and enjoy your Sunday. Be careful if your headed to church this morning.

Rickie Traeger: Merry Christmas

I first and foremost want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas.

Yes, I am a day late. But better late than never, lol.

I wasn’t around much, so I wasn’t able to post it.   I do apologize.

We had a good Christmas. Family Time!   🙂

Family time is priceless.  That is by far the best present anyone can get.   It is the simple things in life that I enjoy most.  Sending quality time with family and friends = Priceless.  So we had a good Christmas.

I went out to the cemetery and visited almost everyone.   We have had some great weather as well. I mean heck on Halloween we were bundled up in 7 layers walking though a bunch of snow. On Christmas we were were t-shirts and light jackets.  Hmmmmm, LOL.   I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!

Rickie Traeger: As We Complain About The Cold , Many Have No Choice But To Live Outside In It

  • Rickie

As we complain that it is cold outside, most of us are spoiled and have our own warm houses to live in. Some people out there do not have this luxury option because of various reasons.

There are many homeless people in and around the area.  They are stuck living out in these cold weather conditions.

They have to live in this cold weather.  While many of us go into our nice warm houses.

So when you are nice and toasty chilling on your cell phones or PC’s reading this, just remember there are many people and families that are out there that do not have this luxury, warmth.

So please keep those people and families that are out in this cold weather in your thoughts and prayers, and if possible help them. You can donate stuff to the local shelters.  Miss Carly’s, Rockford Rescue Mission, Carpenters Place, Etc… I am sure they will gladly accept your donations, that will help with the homeless during the cold weather (And probably all year around)

Things such as gloves, hats, coats, socks, shoes, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, hairbrushes, toilet paper, scarfs, food, water, etc…   Anything that will help, I am sure they will accept it to assist the homeless.

Thankfully there are a few places that are able to assist the homeless during the cold weather.

Winter Storm Preparedness Tips Provided by IEMA

 Winter storm tips for home

  • Make sure your Emergency Kit is stocked and winter storm ready.
  • Use sand to improve traction and apply products that melt ice on walkways.
  • Make sure you have sufficient heating fuel. Regular fuel sources may be cut off.
  • Keep emergency heating equipment and fuel so you can keep at least one room of your house warm enough to be livable.
  • Keep fire extinguishers on hand, and make sure your family knows how to use them.
  • Winterize your home to extend the life of your fuel supply. Insulate walls, attics, doors, and windows.
  • Install storm windows or cover windows with plastic.
  • Do not overexert yourself or work outside for extended periods of time.

Winter storm tips for traveling

  • Make sure your car is in good operating condition before using it in extreme cold.
  • Keep condensation (water) out of your gas tank by keeping the tank as full as possible.
  • Maintain a storm kit in your car with such items as a cell phone and charger; blankets; extra clothing; jumper cables; a flashlight; extra batteries; high-calorie, non-perishable food; and matches or a lighter.
  • Plan your trip carefully. If cold, snowy, or icy conditions exceed your ability or your car’s ability, don’t travel. If you must travel be cautious.
  • Tell someone about your travel plans.
  • Never leave the motor running in a vehicle parked in an enclosed or partially enclosed space, such as a garage.

Note/Edit:  Never fails, LOL.  Someone always has to twist things around. A positive post about helping the homeless, some are trying to spin it. SMH…    Seems like every-time I do a positive post, there is always someone out there that wants to spin it for the bad. That is what is wrong with the world these days. You try to do something positive, and you have a negative nancy out there to spin it.  I swear everytime, LMFAO.   Never fails…

Rickie Traeger: Happy Wet Tuesday Blog

I hope everyone is staying dry. It is a wet Tuesday out there.

I been wanting to re-watch Project Blue Book, but they are making you pay for it online to watch it, grrrr.

I been playing with the sdr dongle, listening to the local radio on it.  The antenna that came with it, sucks. So I am going to buy an antenna adapter for it. I want to be able to listen to the aircraft with it.

Not to much to add to todays blog, other than I am hoping to work on some websites later tonight.

Everyone please be safe.

Rickie Traeger: Happy Walking Dead Day!

Hope everyone had a good Sunday! Happy Walking Dead Day!

I wanted to wait until after I watched the Walking Dead before I blogged tonight.

Hard to believe only 3 episodes left of the Walking Dead, well I think 2 now 🙁

It be interesting to see how Daryl reacts to Carol using him.

And to see what Negan is up to.  The show is making it look like he is wanting to become friends with the whispers.  My opinion, I think he is trying to join them to be a spy.  I think he has grown on everyone and came to the good side now.  After he killed that savior last week. And how he grew on Carl and others. I personally feel that he is trying to join the whispers to help the good side. I guess time will tell, lol.  I like Carol’s idea though. Get rid of the horde, you get rid of the leverage of the whispers. I used to hate Negan, but now I kinda like him. And like I said, I think him trying to join the whispers, are to take vengeance for what the whispers have done.
